I recently read through the archives and found the postings relating to speculation of the Honduran Government adopting an "anti-gringo" approach to land ownership and residency in Roatan. I am an American who is currently considering purchasing a home in either the Ironshore, Palmetto Bay Plantation, or Sandy Bay area. I do not plan live on the island full time, but would hope to retire there in the next 10 years. The postings in the archive now make me seriously question whether this is a smart approach, given that residency may not be granted and there is potential for loss of lands. Am I reading too much into the situation? Is there any recent news, observations, or words of wisdom anyone cares to impart?

Jack: I can do no better than to quote an old Roatan hand in one of his recent postings to the Internet: Don't invest more money than you can afford to walk away from (without changing your standard of living).

Roatan, indeed Honduras, is not a safe place for foreigners to invest. The reasons for this are many and persistent. Begin with uncertain laws,
an unreliable judicial system and a government that couldn't possibly care less. ....Lorenzo
