Honduras/Islenia Airlines

The duct tape plane takes offIf you are going to be traveling around Honduras, you can make your life a whole lot easier if you can get on board an Islenia airlines plane.
I've flown with them quite a bit now and I can say that in my experience, the pilots are capable and experienced professionals. What's more, most of them are friendly. In one instance, a pilot took us and flew us to Guanaja despite the fact that he wasn't really supposed to, as the plane was not really full enough at the time.Islenia Airlines plane getting ready to take off from Trujillo runway
The planes seem for the most part to be of  Russian origin, as what I presume to be the 'Fasten Seat belts' sign appear to be in Russian. Be that as it may, these planes fly on a fairly regular schedule and can get you between the Honduran Islands, Utila, Roatan and Guanaja, saving you from a rather tiresome ferry ride.
I think their hub is in La Ceiba. I know they service San Pedro Sula and probably Tegus, but this is mere speculation. The prices are ludicrously inexpensive, tickets costing in the range of $15 to $25, one way. In my opinion, both costwise and safetywise, this mode of transportation and with this airline is a great bang for the buck!
