Much to the credit of the incumbent Maduro administration, a serious debate is presently going on concerning the matter of the constitutional immunity conferred on most elected officials, as well as lots of appointive ones. The effect of this immunity blanket is to make licensed criminals out of everybody covered by it.
An honest man or woman doesn't need such sly protection - and an honorable public servant would consider himself disgraced by it.

A public functionary - regardless of title - will never be considered publicly trustworthy as long as this "license to steal" remains as one of the perquisities of Honduras public service.

It's time to end this disgraceful holdover from the corruption-ridden past and make the public servants answerable to the same laws of personal responsibility that govern the actions of rank and file Honduras citizens. ... Lorenzo Dee Belveal
